Description

A Report is an independent piece of work of 10,000 words which offers you the opportunity to conduct an original study in primary education or an aspect of childhood, under supervision. Students following this module will design and conduct their own small-scale research project, demonstrating a sound understanding of methodology, research methods and ethics in relation to their work.

Content: Content focuses on the development of research skills in investigating some aspect of provision for children, or of children's lives. This will enable an understanding of methodology, including the collection, presentation and evaluation of data. Ultimately this module will lead to the development of the student as a researcher and the ability to relate their own study to an existing field of evidence.

Teaching Delivery: This module is taught via Lectures, Workshops and Tutorials

Indicative Topics:

  • Literature Review
  • Findings and Discussion

Module Aims:
The aims of this module are to:

  • Develop your research skills in investigating some aspect of provision for children, or of children’s lives.
  • Help you to acquire the skills of evaluating existing research evidence and apply these in the design of your own study.
  • Support you in the processes of collecting and analysing data which will provide ‘answers’ of some kind to your research questions.
  • Enable you to develop your own research perspective and present it clearly in writing in relation to your own investigation.
