Description

This module consists of 25 sessions and workshops over the course of Year 1. Drawing on a range of examples from recent research being conducted within the academic department, module sessions provide training in and critical understanding of a range of research approaches and methods to collect quantitative and qualitative data. A unique element of the module is that sessions on methods are centred around and informed by real world placement activities where trainees plan, develop and utilise research tools to collect quantitative and qualitative data. Workshops focus on developing understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics and a working knowledge of SPSS to undertake these as well as straightforward approaches to qualitative data analysis. The module involves the development and carrying out of a research study with the help of a supervisor which is undertaken within an applied educational context.
