Description

This module builds on Research Methods 1 it develops understanding of qualitative and mixed methods research designs. It involves a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, group discussions and workshops. Sessions focus on the assumptions behind qualitative research and the purposes for which it is employed and will particularly focus on quality and rigour in research. Drawing on a range of examples from recent research being conducted within the School, module sessions provide training in a range of research methods used to collect qualitative data. Trainees gain expertise in the use of these approaches and also an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses such that they can be employed in service of particular research questions. The module enables them to utilize and synthesise research to inform professional practice and provides a context in which they can discuss and develop plans for their doctoral research.
