Description

Module Content

In the fourth compulsory module – which will run during the third term and over the summer of the first year - students produce a research book (words and pictures max 35 pages) which informs the preparation and making of their graduate film. This takes the form of an artist’s scrapbook with citations words and pictures illustrating the process by which you arrive at your film and at the stylistic form in which you have chosen to make your graduation film.Ìý

On completion of this module you:

- will have developed a comprehensive understanding of the skills of critical self-evaluation and ways of demonstrating these in citation text and image.

- will have extended and deepened their artistic research skills and learned how to develop their ideas for an extended creative non-fiction film.

- will have developed a comprehensive understanding of the way in which visual research can inform visual practice.

Indicative Delivery Method

This is a self-starting research-based module in which you will document your research towards your graduation film under the supervision of your course tutors.Ìý

1 x Class Seminar, 10 x 1h individual tutorials

Learning Outcomes

As a result of their research students will:

  • be able to demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create new practice in film making;

  • have a comprehensive understanding of modes of creation and thinking about the relations between form and content in creative documentary practice;

  • display comprehensive powers of appreciation and a similarly advanced critical approach to a range of ‘texts’ (including print, oral, film and multimedia) within their historical, social and theoretical contexts and acknowledge practical awareness of the strengths and limitations of particular ways of engaging with the social world

  • Show a comprehensive understanding of the ethical considerations involved in making film work and be able to apply these practically.Ìý
