Description

This multi-disciplinary module takes a number of key texts drawn from a variety of disciplines (Anthropology, History, Geography, Sociology and the study of Literature and Culture) and examines them in order to consider the different, but sometimes convergent, ways in which research in those fields has produced race as an object of knowledge and power. The module’s emphasis falls initially upon the formation of racial and racialising epistemologies, metaphysics and ideology but shifts rapidly to examine the distinctive questions of method which have been associated with the elaboration of racial knowledge, particularly in relation to the racialised body.
