Description

This module focuses on the economic, social and technological contexts around smart cities and 'smart urbanism', as well as the wider ecosystems that produce them. The module will first explore the history and frontier of urban information technologies, and how these relate to urban social life and institutions. It will focus on cities as users of these technologies, developing critical perspectives on smart city players, practices and partnerships; strategies and policies; and infrastructure / analytics. It will also examine the wider roles of cities and urban places in supporting innovative activity, policy frameworks and tools to support urban innovation, and challenges to these.

Students wishing to take this module should also have taken CASA0001 Urban Systems Theory.
