Description

Through the course, students are expected to develop knowledge and understanding of: - how current emotional states and motives affect the construal of social reality - experimental designs in social cognition, affect and motivation - theoretical issues in motivation and social cognition - how the social reality impacts emotion and motivation. This module examines the interplay between basic cognitive processes, affect, and motivation in the construction of social reality. It also aims to introduce students to the affective and motivational components of social cognition. It reviews knowledge about how the current states, feelings, and goals of the social perceiver affect judgment and behaviour, as well as how the social context affects the individuals’ ways of thinking, feeling, and regulating their behaviour. In particular, the module entails an examination of effects associated with mood, embodiment, approach-avoidance motivation, self-regulation, ego depletion and social factors that impact motivation and affect, such as power, status, social exclusion and minority status affect the emotion and motivation.
