Description

This module draws on a wide-range of academic research and professional experience to develop your skills in strategic management and leadership, human resource management and marketing. The module is designed to be intense and stretch your thinking beyond traditional business and management boundaries to make important linkages in terms of the interdependences that exist when trying to be a strategic manager.

You will be introduced to key theories and approaches to strategy while also discussing and conceptionalising their application in a healthcare setting. You will develop an in-depth understanding of different theoretical perspectives as you explore a range of strategic and operational behaviours and approaches. You will come to learn that the application of strategy requires continual engagement with human resource management.

Lastly, we will introduce the role of marketing within organisations particularly with regard to how they are shaping organisations as well as consumer behaviour. Health and healthcare are on the frontline of this new digital age not only in terms of diagnosis, but prevention and detection. Many of the strategic approaches being introduced in healthcare rely heavily on digital marketing and insights.

This module is run over eight weeks with two weeks for each theme:

  • Strategy and Leadership
  • Human Resource Management
  • Marketing
  • Wrap up

Wrap up weeks are dedicated to engaging with health professionals through online lectures and activities who work in the various themed areas that you have been discussing and evaluating over the previous six weeks. They will take you through real world case studies that solidify the application of these themes to health and healthcare.
