Description

This module introduces graduate students to the principles of the Vitae ‘Researcher Development Framework’ (RDF). It shows how the principles of the RDF can be applied in bioprocess research and development either in academia or the international bioindustry. The course content is aligned with the four Domains of the RDF and will embrace the increasingly important area of Responsible Innovation (RI):

A. Knowledge and intellectual abilities
B. Personal effectiveness
C. Research governance and organisation
D. Engagement, influence and impact

In each we have established a number of content-rich case-studies that drawn specifically on Biochemical Engineering/Bioprocess relevant material/contexts. These are complemented by a number of career sessions involving presentations and panel interviews with early career academics and industrialists across a range of sectors and job types.

Upon completion of the course, a student should be able to:

  • Evaluate their own skills portfolio in different development areas
  • Carry out a skills audit and create a personal development plan (PDP)
  • Appreciate opportunities for engagement with different stakeholders
  • Evaluate the impact of their research
  • Appreciate networking opportunities
