Description

This module will examine policy-making, decision-making, and economic processes related to transport and mobility at the supranational, national, and sub-national level, with a specific focus on transitioning mobility systems towards increased sustainability and zero emissions. The module will critically analyse the nature and process of formulating transport policies and examine interactions between transport policy and other policy areas. Students will gain an understanding of traditional economic theory and appraisal, and critically assess the role it plays in the provision, operation and governance of transport systems. Finally, the module will introduce different policy frameworks and economic frameworks focused on sustainability and resilience.

Learning Outcomes

Students will have the ability to:

  1. Critically examine how transport and mobility fit into, and interact with, wider policy, economic, and decision-making processes and developments
  2. Develop a conceptual and practical understanding of mobility transitions pathways, and critically evaluate the extent to which cities can transition towards increased sustainability
  3. Understand key microeconomics concepts around supply and demand and investigate the role they play in decision-making for transport and mobility systems
  4. Apply economic appraisal methods, including cost-benefit analysis, to real-world transport case studies and examine alternative frameworks for assessing economic and environmental impacts
