Staff Development and Information Systems Training launch new initiatives for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff

26 June 2003

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff keen to expand their skills and knowledge base can benefit from a number of new projects, including the new drop-in training centre, an online staff development project, leadership and management development and a basic skills project.

The 'Basic Skills' project led by Andrew Taylor, Staff Development & Training Officer, aims to develop a programme of staff development for manual and domestic ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff. Areas will include customer service, diversity training, and access to opportunities to develop literacy, numeracy, IT and ESOL skills.

Other initiatives by Staff Development include the 'Leadership & Management Development' project - to encourage good leadership and management practice - and the 'Online Staff Development' project, which provides an online learning resource, initially covering keyboard skills, fire safety, staff induction and IT applications.

Information Systems Training will launch the Open Learning Centre in mid-June 2003. Based at 1-19 Torrington Place, the room will be open for staff to drop-in at any time between 12 noon and 6pm Monday to Thursday, and 12 noon to 4pm on Fridays. The facility will provide more flexible training opportunities than is currently available, from general queries to more specialist applications training.
