¹û¶³Ó°Ôº top in HEFCE research funding

In 2005/2006 ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº will receive more research funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) than any other university, a reflection of the quality and volume of its research.

Professor Malcolm Grant, President and Provost of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº The HEFCE funding was announced on 10 March 2005, with ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's research funding set at £92,990,000, more than 7.4% of the total HEFCE research funding. The total resource for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº from HEFCE will be £162,321,000, 6.5% more than last year.Ìý

Professor Malcolm Grant, President and Provost of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, welcomed the funding as an indication of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's leading position among research-intensive universities:Ìý "It is a tribute to the excellent, groundbreaking work by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's researchers, who are tackling the world's intellectual, cultural, scientific, economic, environmental and medical challenges."
