International Institute for Society & Health launch

5 October 2005

Registration is now open for the launch event for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's International Institute for Society & Health (IISH) on 14 October 2005, which will be followed by an address by the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The launch, held at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº from 12-5pm, will bring together acclaimed international speakers and internationally recognised researchers from ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, together with representatives from policymaking institutions from the UK and abroad. Details of the launch programme and a registration form are now on the IISH's website.

The launch event will be followed by the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº International Health & Medical Education Centre/Lancet Lecture, held in the Institute of Education at 6pm, and given by Professor Daniel Kahneman (Princeton University). The lecture, 'Progress in the study of well-being' will cover the nature of well-being, approaches to its measurement, its relation to health, and its distribution across social classes and over the continents. Professor Kahneman was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2002 for his work in economic sciences.

The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception and poster presentation. The posters will showcase work carried out on global health by students and academics at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, research institutes, non-governmental organisations and other bodies.

Alongside both events will run a research symposium at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, on the mornings of 14 and 15 October 2005.
