¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ranked "25th in world"

16 August 2006

A new evaluation developed by 'Newsweek' magazine ranks ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº in the top 25 global universities.

The ranking, published on 13 August 2006, takes into account "openness and diversity, as well as distinction in research". The only other UK institutions in the top 25 were Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College.

The results are based on:

  • the numbers of highly cited researchers, articles published in 'Nature' and 'Science', and articles listed in the ISI Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities indices
  • the percentages of international academic staff and students
  • citations per academic staff member
  • the ratio of faculty to students
  • library holdings (number of volumes).

'Newsweek' notes that universities have "become more self-consciously global: seeking students from around the world who represent the entire spectrum of cultures and values, sending their own students abroad to prepare them for global careers, offering courses of study that address the challenges of an inter-connected world and collaborative research programs to advance science for the benefit of all humanity".
