At the launch of the London Education Partnership Awards in June 2006, Professor Michael Worton, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Vice-Provost (Academic & International), and Frank McLoughlin, Principal of CIC, spoke about the importance of the relationship to the work of both institutions.

Lord (Andrew) Adonis, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education, and Bill Rammell, Minister of State for Higher Education & Lifelong Learning, commended the partnership as an example to schools and colleges across London.

The partnership will soon enter its sixth year. In addition to a diverse programme of academic support for CIC's sixth-formers - including lectures, masterclasses and tutorial support from ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff - it provides opportunities for CIC staff development in the form of research opportunities and continuing professional development courses. It also provides a useful forum for staff from both institutions to discuss policy issues, and inform each other's perspective on the key challenges facing their respective sectors.

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº funds two bursaries for CIC students entering ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº: the Provost's Prize, which rewards academic excellence, and a Helena Kennedy Foundation bursary, which is awarded to a student who has overcome significant financial or other challenges to gain a place at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº.

The London Education Partnership Awards are designed to celebrate institutions, partnerships and individuals in London who are making an outstanding contribution to widening participation among London learners. They are administered by the London Centre for Leadership in Learning, based the Institute of Education, in association with the Department for Education & Skills, the Mayor of London and Aimhigher. The first awards will be made in June 2007.
