¹û¶³Ó°Ôº telephone fundraising campaign begins

16 May 2006

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's spring telephone fundraising campaign for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Futures was launched on 15 May 2006.

23 undergraduate and postgraduate ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº students drawn from a variety of disciplines will attempt to contact 3,000 UK and 1,000 US alumni over the next few weeks. The phone calls follow a letter sent by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's Provost and President, Professor Malcolm Grant last week, inviting alumni to receive calls from the student callers.Ìý

The campaign aims to update alumni on the latest news from ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, and to get feedback on alumni activities such as reunions and various publications, like '¹û¶³Ó°Ôº People' magazine, as well as encouraging alumni to make a gift to ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Futures.

Telephone fundraising was first adopted by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº in the early 1990s and is now an integral part of the university's fundraising and relationship-building activities. It plays a vital role in helping ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº to direct up to £300,000 per annum to support scholarships, improve facilities and support academic projects.

For student caller Hannah King (Medicine 4), this is her fifth campaign: "The biannual calling campaigns are an excellent way to find out about how much our alumni enjoyed their experiences at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, and how their degree has contributed to their professional lives. It's great for us as students to discuss the ways in which funds raised in the previous ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Futures campaigns have directly benefited current undergraduates in terms of scholarships and projects around college, and all of the student callers are grateful for the time and support of our alumni."
