The future's bright

3 January 2007

The ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Union Stage Crew has been presented with £10,000 raised by alumni and friends of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº through the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Futures programme.

light The money has been used to purchase a much-needed new lighting system for the team, who are based at the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Union Garage Theatre Workshop.

Daniel Swerdlow, ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU Stage Crew President said: "It's pretty special for us and we're incredibly grateful. The versatility of the new system is brilliant - we can now do a lot more with one light, as each has 15 different potential colours. This effectively means we can get the same results from one light as we used to get with 15."

The lights have already been used in a number of productions and got their first airing in the ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU Drama Society's staging of Eugene Ionesco's play 'The Bald Prima Donna' in the Garage, and a number of times since in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Union productions in the Bloomsbury Theatre.

The ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU Garage is a 70-seat studio theatre run entirely by the ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU Stage Crew. Stage Crew offers students the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of theatre production including set building, stage management, lighting and sound. The society has won a number of awards for its work and was the recipient of the Society of the Year award 2005/06.

In addition to funding the Garage's lighting, the generosity of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's alumni and friends giving through ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Futures makes it possible for many moreÌý important projects to be funded each year.
