'Object 9' - the latest edition of the art historical journal produced entirely by graduate students in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº History of Art - will be available on 18 January 2007.

'Object' was established in 1998 and provides students with an excellent opportunity to get their work published in a peer reviewed journal.

Editor Samuel Bibby, who is currently working towards a PhD in History of Art at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, said: "The enterprise is a reflection of the wide range of material which is being addressed within the department and the interests of postgraduate students. It also provides the contributors with their first opportunity to get something published while at the same time providing the board with excellent experience of publishing and peer reviewing."

The editorial board is made up solely of postgraduate students while the review board comprises of former graduate students who are now working in universities throughout the world. The journal, which has a print run of 500, is entirely self-funded through advertisements and subscriptions from throughout the world.

Each issue contains up to six full-length essays, representing the research interests of the department and a series of shorter reviews. The forthcoming edition features essays on Georg Baselitz, Degas, Robert Smithson and Rodney Graham, and Carl Andre and Gertrude Stein: "The contents represent the diversity of issues and methodologies with which graduate students in the department are engaged. Drawing upon object- and theory-based analyses, the studies in 'Object 9' indicate a continual questioning and renegotiation of meaning in the visual arts."
