Mr Jurek was pleased to hear of the range of work on Poland at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, and was particularly interested in the research into migration undertaken by a number of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº PhD students. He also spoke eloquently of Poland's importance for a fuller understanding both of European history and of Europe's role in the world today.

Mr Jurek's comments followed a presentation by Dr Robin Aizlewood, Director of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº SSEES, about the School's history and activities, which included discussion of the Centre for East European Language-Based Area Studies and the International Masters in Economy, State and Society.

Among the other speakers was Agnieszka Smolenska, president of the ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU Polish Society, which was founded last year.

"We were delighted to host such a lively and interesting visit," said Dr Aizlewood.Ìý
