¹û¶³Ó°Ôº professor given presidency of top cell and tissue body

  • Professor Robert Brown, Director of the Tissue Repair and Engineering Centre based at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Orthopaedics, has been made President of British Tissue and Cell Engineering Society (TCES).

    A number of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº colleagues of Professor Brown have also taken up senior roles within TCES - Dr Mark Lewis, Reader at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Eastman has been made Treasurer, and Dr Vivek Mudera, Senior Lecturer at the Tissue Repair and Engineering Centre already serves on the TCES committee.

    Professor Brown said: "Part of the reason for the promotion of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº faculty to the TCES is that we're well used to networking across departments such as engineering, and across other academic institutions, in a collaborative way.

    "Because we're multi-faceted, we've tended to evolve nice systems for working together which translate well at the national level.

    "Unlike, say America, where institutions tend to be fiercely competitive, we enjoy success in low-key, low-cost meetings with colleagues that produce high-quality results. It's a more efficient model and one that we're now being asked to roll out across Europe."

    ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Orthopaedics
    The Institute of Orthopaedics & Musculoskeletal Science (IOMS) is a component of the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Medical School, and is directed by Professor Allen Goodship.
    The IOMS works in partnership with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, a national referral centre for complex musculoskeletal diseases. Through translational research and education, the IOMS and RNOH provide clinical excellence for the benefit of patients with musculoskeletal disease.
    The IOMS, together with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, has a long track record of innovative research leading to new devices and treatments for some of the most devastating orthopaedic and musculoskeletal diseases.
