  • Senior MPs from both the UK and the Netherlands discussed immigration policies at a ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº event this week.

The event,'Where Now For Multiculturalism' sparked some lively debate from new immigration minister Phil Woolas, who talked about both British and Dutch immigration policies.

The Netherlands was represented at the afternoon seminar by state secretary for justice Nebahat Albayrak.

The event, held within the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Engineering Building, was introduced by Professor Stephen Smith (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Dean of Social & Historical Sciences) and chaired by Richard Reeves, Director of thinktank Demos.

The event was the first of its kind held under an ongoing partnership to work together on outreach and engagement with new audiences.

It was organised with the support of Demos, which ran a series of events on the theme of immigration last year.

Also in attendance was Dutch ambassador Pim Waldeck, former grand master of the Dutch royal household, who was a Netherlands representative to the European Union in the 1980s.
