If the cold snap is getting too much, thaw out with music and a souk reminiscent of warmer climes at the Sahara Sounds event on Saturday 7 February 2009.
Hosted by the Friends of the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Petrie Museum, the event begins at 5pm in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's JBR, situated off the main cloisters, with an Egyptian Souk.
At 7.30pm, musicians including Abdullah Chhadeh, Nara and Mounir Baziz will take to the stage at the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Bloomsbury Theatre.
Chhadeh's unmistakably Arabic qanun combines with Nara's nay, darbuka, jazzy double bass and percussion to produce a unique fusion sound, which has enchanted audiences throughout the Middle East and Europe.
All proceeds raised will go towards the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Petrie Museum for Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology.
Tickets for the concert are available from the Bloomsbury Theatre box office for £25, concessions £20, students £15, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº students £10.
For the opportunity to win two free concert tickets, send an email with 'win Sahara Sounds tickets' in the subject line to enter a prize draw to j.picton@ucl.ac.uk.
