Campaign for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº exceeds £300m target

25 May 2012

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº has today announced the closure of its 2004 philanthropic campaign, two years ahead of schedule and over the £300m target it set itself at its launch.

¹û¶³Ó°ÔºQuad The Campaign for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº is the largest UK campaign to close outside Oxbridge and has raised £316m to fund facilities that include:
  • ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Cancer Institute
  • Denys Holland Lecture Theatre, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Laws
  • Lewis Building (new students' union building)

Professor Malcolm Grant, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº President and Provost, said: Ìý"In 2004 we presented ourselves with a challenge: to reach out to our partners and supporters and work together to make remarkable things happen through philanthropic support. At the time, it was the largest ever fundraising campaign for a UK university. The generosity of our supporters has breathed new life into our teaching spaces and libraries, uncovered treasures of the past, and fuelled new discoveries and ideas that will shape our future. ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº is a very special place and I am proud of our efforts over the past eight years to make it an even more exciting university in which to study and work.

"¹û¶³Ó°Ôº has set ambitious plans for the next 10 years and philanthropic support will play an important part in realising those ambitions. Plans are already well underway for the next Campaign which we expect will be even larger than this one."
