Here you can check our academic and English language requirements for entry to the Summer School.

Academic requirements

You will have completed at least one year of undergraduate study at the time of joining the ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºÌýSummer School and normally be able to demonstrate an average grade, or equivalent academic experience, of:

UK scale

  • 2:1 ORÌý
  • 2:2 if you are in your second-, third- or fourth-year at university and applying for lower level module(s).

US scale

  • 3.3/4.0 GPA ORÌý
  • 3.0/4.0 GPA if you are in your second-, third- or fourth-year at university and applying for a lower-level module(s).

Australian scale

  • Distinction OR
  • Credit if you are in your second-, third- or fourth-year at university and applying for a lower-level module(s).Ìý

Academic entry requirements by country

You can find the academic entry requirements for your country of study on the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº International Students page.

After navigating to your country, look for the Graduate Programmes subheading to check the equivalent grade for the 2:1 or 2:2 requirement, depending on the level of the module you would like to apply to and your current or most recent year of study.

Please note that the Summer School is not a graduate programme. The minimum requirement is the completion ofÌýone year of undergraduate study.

Check requirements by country

Students in Australia studying ordinary Bachelor’s degreesÌý

If you are currently studying an ordinary Bachelor's degree in Australia, the requirements are slightly different to those listed on the Graduate Programme webpages. The requirements for Summer School entryÌýare as follows:Ìý

  • Distinction; 70% or 75% (depending on grade scheme); 6/7; 3/4; 7/10 ORÌý
  • Credit; 60% or 65% (depending on grade scheme); 5/7; 2/4; 6/10 if you are in your second-, third- or fourth-year at university and applying for a lower-level module(s).Ìý

English language requirement

If you are not a national of a UK Home Office majority English-speaking country you’ll be required to provide recent evidence of your English language proficiency at the point of application.Ìý

There are three levels of English proficiency needed to meet our programme’s English language requirements:

  • ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Level 2 for most modules
  • ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Level 1 for Computer Science and Science and Mathematics modules
  • ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Level 0 for English language modules

For most modules, if you are not a national of a majority English-speaking country you will need to meet the Level 2 language requirement:

Completion of the 'English Language Skills for Academic Purposes' module in Session One will enable you to progress to modules running in Session Two.Ìý

Students who meet the Level 1 language requirement may take any module in Session Two on completion of the English Language Skills for Academic Purposes module in Session One (both modules must be selected at the time of application).

Students who meet the Level 0 language requirement may take a module in Session Two that falls under the 'Computer Science' or 'Mathematics and Science' subject areas on completion of the English Language Skills for Academic Purposes module in Session One (both modules must be selected at the time of application).
