This scholarship supports the ambitions of east Londoners by funding the fees and living costs of all ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº East Master's programmes and select School of Management programmes.

Eligibility

Students must meet all of the below criteria with no exceptions:

  • be ordinarily resident in the UK or Ireland and eligible to pay Home fee rate, AND
  • have submitted a completeÌýadmission application (including sumission of references) forÌýa full-time, part-time or modular/flexible Master's degree at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº beginning in 2024/25Ìýfor one of the specified programmes – (opens as a PDF), AND
  • have an annual household income of £42,875 or less, AND
  • been a permanent resident for the last five years (since 2019), or have completed GCSE or A-levels, in the following east London boroughs:
    • Hackney
    • Newham
    • Tower Hamlets
    • Waltham Forest

Value, benefits, and duration

  • There are 10 scholarshipsÌýavailable in 2024/25. For two of the awards, priority will be given to eligible final year ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº undergraduates.

  • The value of the bursary is home tuition fees plus £15,700 maintenance (per year or pro rata for part-time and modular/flexible study modes).ÌýMaintenance payments are designed to cover all additional study and living costs. Please check the ‘Additional Costs’ section of the prospectus for your programme. This could include fieldtrips, laptop requirements and additonal equipment. If you have any concerns about additional costs please contact the department.ÌýÌý

  • Scholarship recipients are obliged to inform the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Student Funding Office immediately of any other funding they are awarded towards their ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Master’s degree studies, before or subsequent to the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº East London Scholarship beingÌýawarded.

Selection

The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need and upon the recommendation of the Student Funding Office. ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº recognises the following as impactors of financial need: dependent children, disabilities, experience of care, receiving state benefits, forced migration (refugee, asylum seeker, those who have been granted a temporary form of leave as the result of an asylum or human rights application).

Results

Successful candidates for 2024/25Ìýwill be notified in late July - early August 2024.
